National Rural IT Quiz 2010

Department of IT, BT and S & T, Government of Karnataka in association with STPI, Bangalore, organizes an IT event every year since 1998. The Bangalore IT event has been instrumental in promoting the IT prowess of India to the outside world. It is acknowledged as India’s biggest and most sought after ICT event in the Asia-Pacific region. The 13th edition of the IT event, aptly name as Bangalore IT.biz 2010, was scheduled from 28th to 30th October 2010. The theme of the event was ‘Billion Strong: Empowered by ICT’.

As part of the IT event, the Department in association with Tata Consultancy Services organizes Rural IT Quiz for students of 8th to 12th class across the State. There is no fee for participation. Students of Schools/PU Colleges in the City Corporation limits of are not eligible to participate in the quiz.

The Rural IT Quiz which had a successful run in Karnataka for over a decade now, was extended to Gujarat, Orissa, all the North Eastern States, J&K, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh, besides Karnataka. The Regional rounds of the program were held in all the States during September 2010 and October 2010. Over 15 Lakh students have participated in the preliminary round.

The Rural IT Quiz National Finals was held at Bangalore on 30th October, 2010, in Chowdaiah Memorial Hall, Vyalikaval, Bangalore-03, from 4.30pm to 5.30 pm.

Totally, winners from 8 states participated in the National Finals. Special Awards were given to North Eastern States and Jammu & Kashmir winners.

1. Lalit Nagar & Anuraj Sharma – Sanmati Higher Secondary School, Indore , Madhya Pradesh.
2. Reena Bhatiya & Shivani Agarwal – Virat Public Senior Secondary School, Jaipur , Rajasthan.
3. Patel Maharshi& Anirudh Pillai – Vibgyor High, Vadodara , Gujarat.
4. Omkar Amrutanshu & Bikash Kiran Mishra – DAV Public School, Bhubaneswar , Orissa.
5. Nakul Kamath & Athreya Rao – Poornaprajna College, Udupi, Karnataka.
6. Dipanshu Pandit & Mohit Kotwal – St Xaviers Higher Secondary School, Jammu , Jammu & Kashmir.
7. Tsuzo Lohe & Ankush Joddar – Model Higher Secondary School, Kohima Nagaland , North- Eastern States.
8. Harsha Ohri & Vima Gupta – Nalanda Vidya Niketan School, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh.

These 8 finalists battled it out at the National Finals held on 30th October,2010 in “Chowdaiah Memorial Hall, Vyalikaval, Bangalore”, at 4.30pm, where quizmaster Giri Balasubramaniam put them through multiple rounds of quizzing comprising oral, visual, audio visual and software powered rounds.

The questions were enough to stump a person with an average knowledge of IT, but not the students who had come well prepared and amazed the audience by answering even the most difficult questions.

Finally, Nakul Kamath & Athreya Rao – Poornaprajna College, Udupi, Karnataka , emerged National champions with an impressive show.

Prof.U R Rao , Chairman of the Governing Council of the Physical Research Laboratory , Ahmedabad and Smt.Anu Prabhakar, Cine Actress were the chief guests on the occasion.

Shri. Ashok Kumar C. Manoli - Principal Secretary Dept. of IT, BT and S&T, GOK, Shri.Aravind Jannu- Director, IT & BT, GOK, Shri Harikumar Jha, Managing Director, KEONICS and Shri Nagaraj Ijari, Vice President, TCS were those who graced the event.
